Kuala Lumpur — or, to give it its full name the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur — is the capital of Malaysia and one of the fastest growing cities in economic development and population growth in Southeast Asia. It is the home of the Malaysian parliament, and the financial, political, economic, cultural and tourism center of the country. And it’s home to Istana Negara, the home of the monarch, Yang di-Pertuan Agong and — because they do very tall in Malaysia — the Petronas Towers, the tallest twin buildings in the world, although no longer even the tallest building in the city. Read on.
The Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is located in Merdeka 118 (which is the tallest skyscraper in Asia) between the 75th and 114th levels, so pretty much at the top, there being, as you’d expect from the name, 118 stories in total. The hotel has 252 guestrooms, 27 of which are suites, with floor-to-ceiling windows with breathtaking views of the city’s skyline.
The suites offer a little extra, with a living space, full bath with a separate rain shower and aromatherapy shower steamer, a walk-in dressing room, personal study area and, in select rooms, a private dining space overlooking the cityscape.
Wining and dining are apparently a one-of-a-kind expedition of Malaysia’s multicultural cuisine.
Merdeka Grill is a modern grill, with such fanfare as Cedar-wood roasted salmon prepared at your table, and, for dessert, ice cream topped with T’lur Amur Caviar, the only tropical caviar in the world.
The Park Lounge is all-day dining serving traditional Malaysian dishes, such as Botok Ikan and Gulai Taucu Minang. They must have gotten the memo because they also have vegetarian and vegan selections. Cacao Mixology & Chocolate is a chocolate-themed-bar, serving, duh, chocolate themed cocktails. You can get normal drinks too, thank God. Sip a cocktail and look at the Petronas Twin Towers, shake your head a little and mutter to yourself, “remember when they were the tallest buildings in the world? How times change…” and munch on chocolate treats.
Everywhere you go, you get the views. Wellness at the aptly named New Heights, is on the 99th floor, with a spa, fitness center, a yoga movement studio, and a 30 meter sky infinity pool. There’s a relaxation lounge with an aromatherapy steam bath and Himalayan Salt Alcove, circadian therapies, and, should you want to, you can make your own blend of bath salts with local ingredients.
Room rates start around $400 but the rates are elastic, depending on time of year and what’s going on (i.e. how many people want/need to be in Kuala Lumpur at the time). Suites can run you around $1000.
Did someone say “expense account”? Oh, yes, everyone. For exact prices check the website for your desired dates
