Morocco is fabled and exotic in our minds from movies like Casablanca, and from what we’ve read and seen of the times rock stars like the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix spent there. It’s been mythologized in entertsinment and literature as a place of spies and romantic (and often doomed) ex pats, in books like The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles (or what I think is even better, his The Spider’s House).
It’s a mysterious and familiar land, although so little is known about the country. You can experience the alien world of the top of the Sahara one day, and be on the beach on the Mediterranean the next. You can shop in the Souks and eat some of the best food in the world, right there or really anywhere in the country — in the glorious cities like Tangier, Marrakesh, Fez or Casablanca, or in the mountains, like this place, Roches Armed, in Armed.
And there’s no shortage of amazing, unique things to do…
Stay in a Moroccan Palace
If you really want to get the best Moroccan experience during your stay, consider staying in a Moroccan palace. One of the most popular options is the world famous Royal Mansour in Marrakech. This palace was designed by a former king and it took over a thousand craftsmen to create and execute its beautiful design.
The stunning location is now a luxury resort that, besides its extraordinary rooms, offers its guests butler service, an amazing spa, great restaurants, and a beautiful rose garden to relax in. This resort gives you the Morrocan experience in your hotel room. This is a great way to relax and unwind while staying in a historic and beautiful site.
Stay in the Sahara
If you want to explore the Sahara and still have a luxury experience, Morocco has options. If you are not a big camper, you may consider “glamping” which is a luxury stay in this beautiful terrain. You’ll be surrounded by beautiful hills and dunes while staying extremely comfortable and pampered.
You can either have a singular overnight stay or make a journey of it by traveling between locations on camel. Morocco desert tours are a great way to see this beautiful desert while learning more about the area and its history. Touring is a great way to see different architecture, villages, and even lush valleys and gardens along the way.
If you want to stay in the desert, there are nomad-like tents that specialists set up for you with plushy beds, blankets and pillows. Consider finding a touring option that offers activities such as hiking or sand boarding for an experience you will never forget. Also, some companies will offer amazing dining options for multi-day desert journies.
This is a great way to see the beautiful desert sunrises and sunsets that paint the sky, as well as being able to see the crystal clear skies at night that showcase the Milky Way.
These are just some of the great ways to immerse yourself in beautiful Morocco, on a trip you will never forget. (Unless you actually lose your memory, in which case you will also forget we told you you’d never forget Morocco.)
